Medweb participates in Shadow Bowl

San Francisco PACS firm Medweb is providing its Mobile Medical Communications and Triage Vehicle (MMCTV) and Instant Internet Field Clinic (IIFC) for the Super Bowl's Shadow Bowl initiatives this weekend.

MMCTV employs a high-speed, self-pointing satellite transceiver to provide Internet access, videoconferencing, a voice over IP phone connection, a 24-hour phone system, and wireless LAN capabilities. It also provides fax and laser printer options for IIFC, a series of wireless laptop-based stations where patients can have their history and vitals taken, Medweb said.

In addition, IIFC, which is based on Medweb's Telemedicine Workflow Server, allows for patients to receive an x-ray, EKG, respirometry or other tests, and benefit from advice provided by remote experts before receiving treatment, the firm said.

The Shadow Bowl has been organized to demonstrate "distributed medical intelligence" in case of a mass casualty event, as well as to develop a network of national expertise and a surge capacity for medical response, according to Medweb.
