Agfa scores quintet of global installs

RIS and PACS vendor Agfa HealthCare has received several large contracts from hospitals in France, Germany, the UK, and island countries in the Indian Ocean. The Mortsel, Belgium-based firm will be providing its Impax PACS technology and its QDoc RIS to the Grenoble, France-based university teaching hospital Centre Hospitalier Universitarie (CHU) de Grenoble. The CHU group is comprised of three hospitals in the Grenoble area and generates approximately 3.5 terabytes (TB) of imaging data annually. Full implementation of the project is slated for early 2004, according to Agfa.

In other news from France, the company has begun installing a joint Impax project for the CHU Nancy and the Centre Alexis Vautrin, both in Nancy. The two healthcare groups generate a combined 12 TB of imaging data annually, from more than 327,000 exams.

The firm reported that it has added its Embrace CR mammography product into the Knappschaftskrankenhaus PĂ¼ttlingen Hospital in SaarbrĂ¼cken, Germany. The digital mammography offering will be integrated into the facility’s existing Impax system, according to the vendor.

In the UK, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in London has completed the installation of its Impax/QDoc that was introduced in March 2002. All imaging modalities at the institution are now integrated into the RIS/PACS and the network is linked to the British government’s National Health Service NHSnet.

Turning to the Indian Ocean, the company has deployed its Impax system at Reunion Island to integrate the information systems of four island healthcare centers.

The four projects include the Groupe Hospitalier Sud Réunion at Saint Pierre, the Centre Hospitalier Départemental Felix Guyon and Hôpital d'Enfants de l'Association Saint François d'Assise at Saint Denis, and the Centre Hospitalier Gabriel Martin at Saint Paul. These hospitals are part of a non-profit economic interest group, Télémédecine Océan Indien, which includes all public health institutions on the island (5 hospitals and 2 non-profit private clinics).

The telemedicine project is also shared with the countries of Madagascar, Mauritius, and the Seychelles, according to Agfa.
