Radiology reporting developer StructuRad of Encino, CA, has released the first commercial iteration of its Web-based structured radiology reporting tool. The product, based on a decision-tree model, creates radiological reports for the 12 most common radiology modalities and generates the correct CPT and ICD-9 codes for billing purposes.
Reports are automatically generated on-screen for radiologists to review, and, if appropriate, electronically approve. The report is then made available to the referring physician, and, if applicable, the hospital information system for billing and addition to patient records.
The system requires no hardware or software installation; radiologists simply log into the secure system via the Internet, according to StructuRad. The application can also be programmed to integrate with an existing RIS or PACS.
