Image compression firm Pegasus Imaging of Tampa, FL, has released its PICTools JPEG-LS software development kit for medical imaging. The tools provide optimized, low-level C libraries that offer lossless and near-lossless compression over a broad range of images.
The product is most applicable to compression of medical images containing detailed color and 256 or more levels of gray, according to the firm. In addition, the compressor supports both lossless and sophisticated constrained-loss modes.
