Storage developer EMC of Hopkinton, MA, has introduced its Centera Compliance Edition, a specialized content-addressed storage (CAS) system designed to meet U.S. records-retention regulations.
The compliance edition of the Centera product line features retention enforcement, which enables compliance officers to set hardened retention periods in electronic records. In addition, an enhanced disposition, or "shredding" tool ensures that deleted data cannot be recovered using disk scanning tools, for ensuring the privacy of sensitive records for regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Additional features announced by the firm include Content Parity Protection (CPP) for improved capacity utilization, and enhanced replication management, enabling users to set policies for replicating their fixed content. The Centera system list price begins at $64,000 for hardware and $84,000 for software, totaling $148,000 for a 4-terabyte protected (8 terabytes raw capacity) total system configuration, according to the company.
