SCAR debuts TRIP initiative

The Society for Computer Applications in Radiology (SCAR) has launched TRIP: Transforming the Radiological Interpretation Process, an initiative designed to spearhead research, education, and discovery of approaches to the problem of information and image data overload.

The Great Falls, VA-based society believes TRIP will foster interdisciplinary research on technology, environmental, and human factors to better manage the radiology information explosion, focusing on large image datasets, navigation devices, manpower, and training.

Led by TRIP committee chair Richard Morin, Ph.D., the initiative will be the focus of the June 10th closing session at SCAR's annual meeting in Boston. Representatives from NASA, USC Computer Animation Laboratory, and the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) will be on hand to discuss data management, while moderators from the radiologic sciences will assess the effects of large data volumes on image interpretation and management, SCAR said.
