Agfa consolidates R&D, equipment service

Agfa HealthCare has consolidated its PACS research and development operations and Equipment Repair U.S. unit. PACS R&D will be consolidated in Agfa's Waterloo, Ontario and Mortsel, Belgium facilities, while Equipment Repair U.S. will be based in Atlanta at the World Parts Center, according to the Mortsel-based vendor.

As part of this consolidation, Agfa will wind down operations at its Glasgow, DE, facility, which was acquired in 1999 following the purchase of Sterling Diagnostic Imaging. Since its acquisition, the facility had been serving as a center for software development and integration of Agfa's imaging and informatics products. It has also provided service for equipment that Agfa acquired through the Sterling deal.

The Glasgow facility is scheduled to close at the end of this year, and Agfa plans to move half of its approximately 75 personnel to other Agfa assignments, according to the firm.
