Impact Labs launches compression tool

Impact Labs of Columbia, MD, is using this week’s Symposium for Computer Applications in Radiology to launch Master Archive Medical Edition 3.5, a new high-volume image compression application.

Master Archive Medical Edition 3.5 is Windows-based software that both compresses and encrypts images. By including an encryption component, Impact Labs believes that its software requires less storage capacity than original files and can be shared over even low-bandwidth Internet connections.

Once compressed, Master Archive images are stored in a format that can be read only with a proprietary image viewer that Impact Labs plans to distribute freely. Images can be embedded within electronic patient records and e-mailed to physicians, or made available over a virtual private network (VPN). The software also includes support for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
