Siemens unveils MagicStore

Siemens Medical Solutions has released its Sienet VA42 MagicStore enterprise image storage system. Based on open standards, industry standard database technology, and off-the-shelf hardware, MagicStore allows providers to store image data directly from any Siemens or non-Siemens DICOM 3.0-compliant device, according to the Malvern, PA-based vendor.

Customers can purchase additional storage capacity as they need it with the system, which is suitable for both community hospitals and multi-site enterprises, Siemens said. The firm said it can provide DICOM data conversion services for clients with non-Siemens imaging equipment that use proprietary imaging formats or protocols.

MagicStore can be hosted on-site or utilize the vendor's information services center for remote backup of patient data. Features related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) such as audit trails, security, back up, and disaster recovery capabilities have also been included in MagicStore, according to the firm.
