RealTimeImage gets FDA OK for archive software

RealTimeImage of San Bruno, CA, has received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its iPACS Prism archiving product. iPACS Prism complements the vendor’s iPACS Web server and its Pixels-On-Demand technology with short-term storage, archiving, and full DICOM functionality for facilities without digital archives.

iPACS Prism was designed for clinics and hospitals, particularly outside the U.S., with digital modalities but without PACS archives. By adding short-term storage capabilities to the iPACS Web server, images are made available for local reading and can be transferred to remote archives as well. iPACS Prism can be connected directly to acquisition modalities and workstations using the DICOM protocol.

Storage capacity of the server and procedure volume determines the actual number of studies online. When storage capacity is full, older studies are automatically erased to make room for newer studies, according to RealTimeImage.

The product has been sold and installed in a few places in Europe. It will be marketed and sold in the U.S. through RTI’s partners.
