Storage-media developer Verbatim of Charlotte, NC, and Columbia, MD-based enterprise-storage developer Objective Data Storage (ODS) have joined forces to launch MediDisc for capturing, storing, sharing, and tracking patient records and images.
MediDisc is fully compliant with DICOM data-structure storage standards and meets HIPAA requirements for privacy, security, and tracking of patient records, according to the firms.
The system includes a workstation and a CD/DVD printer/duplicator, and receives DICOM images from a central storage archive on an institution’s network or directly from its medical imaging systems. Patient information can be stored locally, pushed to another workstation, or written to a serialized MediDisc CD or DVD. All software components have been integrated into a single, expandable system with a single user interface, the companies said.
The companies reported that final tests of MediDisc are currently being conducted to ensure complete DICOM functionality. The system will begin shipping in October.
