Rumors of a possible PACS market exit by Canon Medical Systems have been working their way through the industry grapevine. While Canon said it has not decided on its future participation in the sector, the Irvine, CA-based firm confirmed that it is weighing its options.
Canon Medical Systems’ director and assistant general manager, Tsuneo Imai, told AuntMinnie.com that the company has witnessed a market shift towards Web-based technology.
"Since Canon PACS does not have a Web-based distribution capability, we have been evaluating market interest in our technology for some time," he said. "We will continue to monitor market conditions to help us determine the future business direction for Canon PACS."
Canon has more than 200 PACS customers in the U.S., the only country where its PACS technology is available. Imai said that any decision Canon makes will include a provision to support its customers.
