Software developer DeJarnette Research Systems of Towson, MD, plans to begin shipments on November 1 of BreakAway, a new software product designed to help imaging facilities deal with the massive quantities of data produced by multislice CT scanners.
BreakAway addresses workflow inefficiencies created by the use of multislice CT scanners, according to the company. Multislice systems produce multiple-procedure studies with a single acquisition, while a PACS matches these studies to a single order. As a result, hospitals must use manual processes to bill for unmatched orders, the CT scanner’s modality worklist contains multiple entries and is difficult to clear out, and prefetching is more difficult.
BreakAway identifies multiple-procedure studies and modifies the DICOM modality worklist using a group procedure to replace multiple procedures. It also associates images with a specific anatomical region automatically, and associates images with the appropriate order.
BreakAway was introduced as a work in progress at the Symposium on Computer Applications in Radiology meeting in June.
