ORLANDO, FL - Eastman Kodak Health Imaging announced new agreements with group purchasing organizations and unveiled new integration toolkit and secure e-mail products at the 2004 Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference.
Kodak showcased a registered e-mail feature for its Secure E-Mail Service, which encrypts e-mail messages and attachments, enabling healthcare users to share patient-identifiable information securely over the Internet. The feature allows the sender of an e-mail to be notified of the time and date that a recipient opens the e-mail.
The firm also introduced an application service provider (ASP) model for the service, as well as a new integration toolkit for its DirectView PACS System 5 platform and other healthcare information technology (IT) systems. The ASP model enables the company to remotely manage a customer’s e-mail system and to perform all administrative functions, including adding and deleting user names and implementing new features.
The new toolkit enables Kodak engineers to rapidly and easily integrate the PACS System 5 platform with selected vendors’ RIS networks, electronic healthcare records (EHR), electronic medical records (EMR), dictation systems, and other information management systems.
In other Kodak PACS news, the company reported that its recently introduced DirectView Versatile Intelligent Patient Archive (VIParchive) software would be available worldwide in the second quarter of 2004. Also available in the second quarter will be an implementation of VIParchive that works with the Centera content-addressed storage (CAS) system from EMC of Hopkington, MA.
Kodak also reported that it has expanded its purchasing agreement with Radiology Partners, a subsidiary of group purchasing organization MedAssets of St. Louis. Under the terms of the deal, Kodak has become the sole-source supplier of digital medical imaging products for the more than 2,500 Radiology Partners member facilities in the U.S.
The expanded agreement, in effect through January 2006, permits Radiology Partners members to buy Kodak’s DirectView PACS System 5 software, as well as the DirectView line of CR and DR systems, the firm said.
