NEW ORLEANS - Cardiac image management firm Heartlab of Westerly, RI, has reached an agreement to acquire telecardiology firm CardioNow, the companies reported at this week's American College of Cardiology meeting.
CardioNow of Encinitas, CA, markets DICOM-based cardiac image archiving and sharing software that enables cardiologists to use the Internet to share, access, and collaborate on imaging studies such as echocardiograms, angiograms, and intravascular ultrasound studies. The company's clients include heart hospitals as well as clinical trials sponsors that use its technology to streamline studies that have imaging endpoints.
Heartlab executives said the deal will complement its installed base of 200 systems at heart centers in the U.S. Many of these sites are already involved in clinical trials, and Heartlab will be able to expand the range of services it offers to these customers, the company said.
In other Heartlab news, the company said that Trillium Health Centre had purchased the company's Encompass cardiac image management network to manage sites it operates in Mississauga and Etobicoke, Ontario. Trillium is one of Canada's largest heart centers, and the Encompass system will enable images from two cath labs, six ultrasound units, and four nuclear cardiology systems between the two sites to be accessible anywhere on the enterprise's network.
Heartlab also recently made an Encompass sale to Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, where it will manage data from 17 cath labs, 26 ultrasound units, and three nuclear medicine systems at eight hospitals.
