Efforts to expand the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) initiative to cardiology are nearing fruition. An IHE cardiology technical framework has been released for public comment.
The technical framework covers technical specifications for three cardiology profiles: cath workflow integration, echo workflow integration, and retrieve ECG for display.
The cardiology technical framework can be viewed at the American College for Cardiology's Web site. Comments may be submitted using the IHE forums until July 15; the IHE cardiology technical committee will then address the comments and publish a trial implementation version in August.
The document represents the first stage in an IHE effort by the ACC, the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC), the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) to focus on the integration of information within the cardiology department, according to the societies.
