Data-storage firm StorageTek has introduced a number of new archive technologies suitable for deployment in medical imaging applications. They include StreamLine SL500, a mid-range modular library system featuring tape storage automation technology.
SL500 starts at 30 linear-tape open (LTO) cartridge slots and can scale up to over 500 LTO slots storing over 100 terabytes (TB) of uncompressed data. It can support up to 18 tape drives with throughput rates of over two TB/hour and can accommodate mid-range tape drive formats such as LTO Gen-2, according to the Louisville, CO-based firm. Support for Super DLT (SDLT) will follow in future versions.
The archive provides mixed media support and interfaces to consolidate Unix and Windows operating systems, StorageTek said.
StorageTek has also introduced Backup Resource Monitor, which provides backup monitoring through a single view. With Backup Resource Monitor software, users gain a centralized, comprehensive view into their entire backup infrastructure, from backup applications to networking and tape automation components, according to the vendor.
In other StorageTek news, the firm has completed a strategic OEM partnership agreement with Sun Microsystems. Under the deal, Sun will market and sell StorageTek's StreamLine SL8500 system under its StorEdge brand, as well as StorageTek's L-700e and L-180 tape libraries.
