Bycast will introduce a new version of its StorageGrid storage architecture.
Vancouver-based Bycast will debut StorageGrid 5.1, which adds a replicated FileSystem Gateway to the grid-computing architecture. As a result, StorageGrid can function as a virtual CIFS (Windows) or NFS (Unix/Linux) file system, allowing any type of fixed content (such as lab results, doctors notes, audio, video, and diagnostic images) to be stored on StorageGrid, Bycast said.
The FileSystem Gateway can also "intelligently" process DICOM and other standard file formats, according to the vendor. This approach adds to the openness of near-line image storage, and facilitates the sharing of imaging studies between numerous applications, Bycast said.
