Sony will emphasize its new blue-laser storage media.
Professional Disc for Data is Sony's first recording media to record using blue lasers instead of red lasers. The shorter wavelength of the blue-violet laser and a high-performance lens allows for more than four times the amount of data to be stored on a disk compared to red-laser-based CD, DVD, and magneto-optical technologies, according to the Park Ridge, NJ-based vendor.
The optical storage technology provides up to 23.3 GB of storage per single-sided disk, and is available in both write-once and rewritable versions. The format yields a reading speed of 11 MB/sec and a writing speed of 9 MB/sec.
In other Sony news, the firm is also unveiling UP-D897, a small, black-and-white ultrasound video printer. The 88 mm height x 240 mm deep unit makes use of a USB 2.0 digital interface, and prints in normal, small, and 2x zoom sizes on a range of glossy, high-density, and standard paper. It replaces UP895MD in Sony's product line.
