Graphics developer Matrox Graphics of Montreal has debuted technology that will enable calibration packages from display manufacturers and software developers to calibrate display luminance to industry standards, the company reported.
LCD displays are unevenly illuminated from one edge to another, and from the center to any edge, which creates inconsistent viewing conditions across a screen and between multiple displays, according to the company. Correction for this type of uneven luminance is still unavailable in many displays. Matrox's Digital Luminance Correction (DLC) technology provides uniform calibration of display luminance, enabling more accurate diagnostic readings.
Matrox DLC is available on upcoming Matrox display controller boards designed for medical imaging, and luminance correction takes about 90 seconds to run from beginning to end. The package allows medical imaging professionals, hospitals, and clinics to calibrate their displays, adjusting for inconsistencies in luminance uniformity, according to Matrox.
