A decline in revenues in its North American operation contributed to a 13.8% dip in first-quarter revenues for healthcare IT and advanced visualization developer Merge Healthcare.
For the quarter (end-March 31), the Milwaukee-based firm had revenues of $13.7 million, compared with $15.9 million in the first quarter of 2007. Merge had a first-quarter net loss of $7.8 million, compared with a net loss of $9.7 million a year ago.
Merge Healthcare North America revenues dropped from $10.4 million in the first quarter of 2007 to $7.1 million in the first quarter of 2008. Revenues in the company's Cedara Software unit climbed, however, from $4.8 million in the first quarter of 2007 to $6 million in 2008.
