PACS technology provider Acuo Technologies' DICOM Services Grid is being used in the distribution of patient information to monitor the impact of malaria in Malawi, Africa.
Physicians at Michigan State University (MSU) are using the technology to diagnose and study the effects of the disease on the brains of infected children, using a procedure that previously could be done only via autopsy.
DICOM Services Grid is used in conjunction with an MRI scanner from GE Healthcare of Chalfont St. Giles, U.K., at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre. MR images are transmitted by Acuo's technology to doctors at MSU in East Lansing, MI, over secure connections.
