Dear PACS Insider,
Many market watchers believe PACS software has become a commodity. Will PACS administrators suffer the same fate?
That's not likely, although their roles will likely evolve over time, according to Michael Mack, president of PACS consulting services provider the Thomas Group. In the future, PACS administrators will likely migrate from technical work and support to clinical-based support activities, Mack said.
Mack's vision for the future of PACS administration is this month's PACS Insider Exclusive, which you have access to before it is published for the rest of our AuntMinnie.com members. To learn more about what the future might hold for PACS administrators, click here.
In other articles we're featuring this month in the PACS Digital Community, PACS vendor DR Systems has sued competitors Emageon, eRad, and NovaRad for patent infringement. The litigation is the latest in the company's efforts to defend its patents -- you can find staff writer Brian Casey's coverage here.
In addition, PACS recently was found to come with the risk of repetitive stress injuries. Therefore, radiology departments should implement ergonomic initiatives, according to researchers from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. You can read more by clicking here.
