At the 2008 RSNA meeting in Chicago, IBM unveiled its new Healthcare Image and Information Grid (HIIG), a scalable archive system with the ability store image studies and patient records.
Built on IBM's Grid Medical Archive Solution (GMAS), HIIG uses open standard architecture and interoperable services to provide integrated IT solutions across an enterprise, according to the Armonk, NY-based company.
IBM also released new software features for its GMAS system. GAM v2.1 now supports applications in digital pathology, mass spectrometry, and high-throughput screening that require network-attached storage (NAS) systems. The Distributed Gateway feature adds scalable NAS capability with support for up to 1 billion objects, and can be used to archive and protect data for life across any tier and location, according to IBM. The Distributed Control Node adds more advanced control node software replication features to improve image access and network performance, with universal data access from any location.
The new features will be available on December 12, 2008, with the Distributed Gateway available in the second quarter of 2009.
