Video-capsule manufacturer Given Imaging of Yoqneam, Israel has received coverage policies for use of its M2A capsule endoscope from Blue Cross of California, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island Medicare, and HGSAdministrators, the Medicare Part B insurance carrier servicing Medicare beneficiaries in Pennsylvania.
The coverage permits physicians to be reimbursed for using the device to image suspected small bowel tumors. Reimbursement for M2A use in diagnosing suspected Crohn’s disease was also approved by HGSAdministrators.
With the addition of the three payors, use of the device is reimbursable for approximately 47 million beneficiaries in the U.S., according to the firm.
