Video-capsule manufacturer Given Imaging of Yoqneam, Israel, has received a national coverage policy decision from U.S. healthcare insurance firm Aetna. The coverage extends to the firm's M2A capsule endoscope to investigate suspected small intestinal bleeding in patients with evidence of recurrent, obscure gastrointestinal bleeding who have had upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies that failed to identify a bleeding source.
Aetna serves more than 13 million medical members bringing the number of patients in the U.S. with reimbursable access to capsule endoscopy to 86 million, according to Given Imaging.
