Imaging software developer Research Systems plans to release version 6 of its Interactive Data Language (IDL) software in July. The release includes a number of flexibility and ease-of-use enhancements, including Intelligent Tools (iTools), according to the Boulder, CO-based vendor.
iTools is a set of interactive utilities that allows IDL users to quickly and easily perform ad hoc data analysis and visualization, as well as produce presentation-quality graphics, according to RSI, a wholly owned Eastman Kodak subsidiary. Another feature, Virtual Machine (VM), is a free runtime utility that allows IDL users and software developers to distribute compiled IDL code at no cost. RSI released IDL 6.0 to beta testers last month.
