Currency effects and a decline in business from its North American and U.K. markets contributed to a 14.3% drop in sales for Agfa HealthCare in its second quarter.
For the period (end-June 30), the Greenville, SC-based vendor had sales of 313 million euros ($487.8 million U.S.), down from 365 million euros ($568.8 million U.S.) last year. The Agfa unit had recurring earnings before interest and taxes of 19.5 million euros ($30.4 million U.S.), down from 33.3 million euros ($51.8 million U.S.) a year ago.
The sales decrease was mainly attributable to North America and the U.K., where a strong euro affected the company's competitive position, Agfa said. In addition, the market-driven decline in its x-ray business is more pronounced in those markets and not compensated by healthcare IT, according to the vendor.
In quarterly highlights, Agfa said that its computed radiography segment performed well in the second quarter. The imaging IT segment also started to recover following its weak performance in the first quarter, the company said.
