Monitor manufacturer Planar Systems has released its Invitium Mobile family of point-of-care workstations for clinician documentation and order entry.
The Invitium Tn4 Mobile POC system supports thin-client, Citrix-based computing, and the Invitium Tk7 Mobile POC system is designed for Microsoft Windows XP users in a traditional client/server network.
Both the Invitium Tn4 and Tk7 systems are available with an optional touch screen and support bar code scanners, biometric devices, ID card readers, and patient-monitoring devices. Both versions have 10/100-base-T Ethernet connectivity, as well as wireless 802.11 a, b, and g support, Planar said.
The Invitium Mobile systems feature a wheel base of 18 x 18 inches (45.7 x 45.7 cm) and have ball-bearing casters to minimize rolling resistance. The product's batteries work for up to eight hours between charges and communicate to users via an on-screen battery gauge that displays the remaining battery life. The battery cells cost less than $50 to replace, according to the Beaverton, OR-based Planar.
The systems, which are certified for use in healthcare facilities under U.S. and European safety standards, feature rounded edges and protection from liquids and fluids entering the units. The cooling system is fanless, which eliminates noise and reduces the flow of airborne contaminants, Planar said.
