Net income at imaging services provider Alliance Imaging fell for the second quarter (end-June 30) despite a slight uptick in sales. Highlights for the period included strong growth in the company’s PET imaging segment, according to the Anaheim, CA, firm.
For the quarter, Alliance posted revenues of $105.3 million, up 1.5% compared with sales of $103.8 million in the second quarter a year ago. The company had net income of $5.7 million, compared with net income of $9.6 million in the same period last year.
Alliance incurred higher operating expenses during the period, spending $48.9 million versus $44.8 million in the second quarter of 2002. The company also incurred $3.2 million in employment agreement and severance-related expenses in the most recent period.
The company said that its PET business grew 109% in the first half of 2003 compared to the first half of 2002. Alliance opened two new freestanding centers in the first half, with another three scheduled to open in the second half of the year.
