Dear AuntMinnie Member,
It's starting to become a familiar story -- Congressional lawmakers faced with an unexpected shortfall in the federal healthcare budget cast about for places to cut. They settle on an area that seems flush with cash: medical imaging services. You know what happens next.
Finding ways to break this cycle was the topic of a presentation this week at the Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA) meeting in Las Vegas, where staff writer Kate Madden Yee was on hand to report for our Imaging Center Digital Community.
The article discusses how the American College of Radiology (ACR) is working to educate lawmakers on the value of radiology. The story also offers an update on some of the major regulatory initiatives currently working their way through Washington, DC, such as changes to rules on per-click scanning, as well as leasing deals with independent diagnostic testing facilities (IDTFs).

Cardiac MRI beats CT
In other news, coronary CT angiography (CCTA) has been getting all the attention in cardiac imaging lately, but a new study by U.S. researchers indicates that MRI might have the upper hand over CT in at least one application: assessing myocardial viability after reperfusion therapy.
Researchers pitted the modalities against each other to see which could provide more information about myocardial perfusion and transmural infarct size in patients who suffered myocardial infarction.
