Congress overrides Bush Medicare veto

Both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate voted to override President Bush's veto of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (H.R. 6331), legislation that eliminates a 10.6% cut in payments to physicians participating in the federal Medicare program.

The House vote was 383 to 41, easily meeting the two-thirds majority required for an override. The Senate vote was 70-26, also well over the tally needed for an override. President Bush had vetoed the bill earlier in the day.
