The American College of Radiology (ACR) has issued a set of guidelines designed to help radiology practices decide when and how to return to routine radiology services after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Published May 6 in the Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR), the guidelines are designed to help guide imaging facilities in safely resuming mammography, oncology, and orthopedic imaging services, as well as image-guided biopsies and other nonurgent care. Recent estimates are that imaging volume is down by as much as 50% due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ACR noted that with coronavirus cases and deaths falling in some areas, radiology practices are beginning to resume routine care. The guidelines are designed to help these facilities make informed decisions on when, where, and how to get back in operation, the ACR said.
