The Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) has named Paula Gordon, MD, of the University of British Columbia, winner of the 2025 SBI Gold Medal for her outstanding contributions to the field.

This award recognizes individuals who have made exceptional strides in advancing breast imaging and have shown extraordinary service to the medical community, the SBI said.
Gordon pioneered breast ultrasound in Vancouver, BC, and demonstrated its role in detecting cancers missed by mammograms, the SBI said. Her 1995 groundbreaking study transformed screening for women with dense breasts, influencing global practices. An Officer of the Order of Canada, she has received numerous honors, including the Order of British Columbia. Gordon has authored key research on fibroadenomas and interval cancers that has shaped diagnostic standards, as well as serves as a medical advisor to Dense Breasts Canada and DenseBreast-info.org and as vice president of the Canucks for Kids Fund.
The award will be presented at the 2025 SBI Breast Imaging Symposium to be held April 24 to 27 in Colorado Springs, CO, SBI noted.
