ACR Foundation bestows humanitarian awards

The American College of Radiology Foundation presented its Global Humanitarian Awards May 4 at its annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Award recipients for 2025 are Frank Minja, MD, of Emory University in Atlanta, and Toma Omofoye, MD, of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

In 2018, Minja cofounded an interventional radiology program at Muhimbili National Hospital in Tanzania which brings interventional radiology teams from around the world for two-week blocks to provide sub-specialty training to Tanzanian radiologists. The program's support organization, Road2IR, helps in funding and mobilizing teams and equipment.

Omofoye developed an online breast imaging curriculum designed for low- and middle-income countries that was originally intended for 50 trainees in two countries but has now expanded to reach more than 225 participants across multiple continents, the ACR said. In the Caribbean, Omofoye has helped organize educational seminars on breast care in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the World Health Organization/Pan American Health Organization and MD Anderson.
