'Radvocates' take to Capitol Hill for 2025 Hill Day

More than 450 “radvocates” dressed in lab coats gathered May 7 at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, for the annual Hill Day, part of the 2025 American College of Radiology (ACR) annual meeting.

ACR members took part in about 250 meetings in congressional offices and gave their perspectives on key topics, including legislation to permanently reform Medicare physician payment and to amend the appropriate use criteria section of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA).

The radvocates advised lawmakers that savings linked to the amended PAMA can help offset implementation costs for Medicare physician payment reform. PAMA reduces low-value imaging through consultation of physician-developed appropriate use criteria, with the aim of simplifying the consultation process for the ordering physician.

Hill Day participants also presented House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) with the Congressional Award for Radiological Excellence (CARE Award).
