The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) has submitted comments on two U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed rules for calendar year 2027.
In its comments on the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) proposal (CMS-1850-P), ASRT warned that the policy could limit access to care where hospital outpatient departments are a key source of imaging. These include rural and underserved areas and regions with few freestanding imaging centers, the ASRT said.
ASRT's comments on the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) proposal (CMS-1848-P) covered high-cost disposable supplies, specific code valuations, and a CMS request for information on duplicate lab testing, imaging, and result sharing and interoperability. The society said it addressed proposed changes to primary care and care management related to technology and clinical AI.
CMS issued both proposals in July. The OPPS comment period closed Aug. 31 and the MPFS comment period closed Sept. 14. Final rules are expected this fall.
