Summer brings news from AIUM, SNM shows

Dear AuntMinnie Member,

The arrival of summer has brought not only hot temperatures to the northern hemisphere, but also a bumper crop of news from two of radiology's most prominent scientific conferences.

This week on AuntMinnie.com, we're featuring daily reports from the annual meetings of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, underway in Philadelphia, and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, now going on in Phoenix. AuntMinnie staff writers are on the scene at both shows to bring you the latest in imaging research.

Our SNM coverage includes the announcement of the Image of the Year as selected by Dr. Henry Wagner, who picked a series of brain PET images for the award. Other SNM stories include an article on the use of FDG-PET in restaging patients with suspected lung cancer recurrence, and confirmation of FDG-PET's utility in staging small-cell lung cancer.

You'll find these stories, and the rest of our SNM coverage, in our Molecular Imaging Digital Community, at molecular.auntminnie.com.

In ultrasound, our AIUM meeting coverage includes an article on the usefulness of the intradecidual sign to differentiate normal from ectopic pregnancies at an early stage, as well as an effort by the AIUM to establish quality standards for the use of compact ultrasound systems.

Read all about these stories in our Ultrasound Digital Community, at ultrasound.auntminnie.com.
