Hepatic half clearance time: T1/2

The hepatic half clearance time is defined as hepatic parenchymal clearance/excretion and can be quantitatively assessed by determining the T1/2 from a peripheral region of the liver parenchyma (excluding visible bile ducts). The excretion T1/2 is calculated by a least squares fit to the clearance curve. There is a large overlap of the T1/2 value in the neonatal period, and it is generally not helpful in distinguishing biliary atresia from other causes of cholestasis.
