The European Society of Radiology (ESR) reported 6% growth in attendance at its 2007 European Congress of Radiology (ECR), held March 9-13 in Vienna.
Final attendance totaled 17,063 from 94 countries, compared to 16,000 at the 2006 meeting. Of the 2007 total, 9,888 attendees were medical professionals, while 7,175 were industry delegates. The congress featured 1,700 accepted proffered papers and exhibits, with a rejection rate of 62%.
The largest contingent of attendees came from Austria, which sent 1,004 imaging professionals, up 13% from 2006. The second largest group came from Germany, with 965 attendees, up 12%. Italy came in third at 869 attendees, up 3%, followed by the U.K, with 424 attendees, down 5% from the 2006 congress.
The president of ECR 2008 is Dr. Maximilian Reiser, director of the Institute for Clinical Radiology at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany. The 2008 edition will take place from March 8-11, and will include a focus on women's imaging. India, Israel, and Germany will be the guest countries.
