With more than 3,100 participants and multiple scientific and educational sessions, the 30th Iranian Congress of Radiology was a great success in bringing together radiologists, radiographers, radiology residents, and allied scientists in the region and offering them a tremendous opportunity for a unique educational experience.
During the congress, which took place May 13-16, speakers such as Dr. Heinz-Peter Schlemmer, Dr. Luigi Solbiati, Dr. Daniele Regge, Dr. Andrea Laghi, Dr. Ali Shirkhoda, Dr. Bijan Bijan, Dr. Jafar Golzarian, and many others shared their latest achievements in special focus courses dedicated to the field of oncologic imaging and intervention. These were organized in collaboration with the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and the European Society of Oncologic Imaging (ESOI).
Over the four days, there were 59 multidisciplinary scientific sessions with 210 scientific and educational lectures from 115 invited speakers and 34 educational workshops. In the precongress course on nuchal translucency and nasal bone imaging, the main hall was packed with Iranian radiologists interested in obstetrics imaging, while the other precongress course covered state-of-the-art PET/CT and its new horizons.
Radiology residents took advantage of 16 board-review classes and one interactive board-review session using an audience response system (ARS), where they were challenged in a friendly atmosphere. In addition to the scientific sessions, 49 companies introduced their latest products in the field of imaging over 4,000 m2 of exhibition space at the Olympic Hotel in Tehran.
All 80 abstracts accepted for oral presentation were published in the Iranian Journal of Radiology, the official journal of the Iranian Society of Radiology. From 153 scientific papers presented at the congress, the nine best abstracts were selected after being peer-reviewed by our meta-reviewers, and they received awards at the closing ceremony. In addition, for the first time, the Iranian Congress of Radiology gave awards to three radiology residents who have contributed to their departments' research efforts. The awards were based on the generous donation of Dr. Akbar Bonakdarpour, one of the pioneers of skeletal radiology.
Dr. Luigi Solbiati, Dr. Heinz-Peter Schlemmer, and Dr. Riccardo Manfredi were honorary membership recipients of the Iranian Society of Radiology, and Dr. Jafar Golzarian, Dr. Kavous Firouznia, and Dr. Ali Akbar Ameri received the gold medal of the Iranian Society of Radiology this year.
Finally, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Dr. Jalal Jalal Shokouhi, Dr. Abdolrasool Sedaghat, Dr. Mansoor Fatehi, Dr. Kourosh Abdollahifard, Dr. Mohammadreza Movahedi, Dr. Marina Pourafkari, Dr. Reza Bakhshandehpour, Dr. Morteza Sanei Taheri, Dr. Masoumeh Salamati, Dr. Farahnaz Falahati, Fatemeh Moftakhari, Mehdi Faraji, and all my other colleagues for their kind contributions to what made this year's congress a huge success.
