The U.S. CT market generated almost $1.3 billion in revenues in 2001, and will grow to over $2.3 billion by 2008, according to a report published by market research firm Frost & Sullivan. This growth is being driven by multislice technology, according to the San Jose, CA-based company.
The future of single-slice CT systems is limited, as greater numbers of radiology departments are choosing multislice scanners to replace their current CT units, according to Frost & Sullivan industry analyst Monali Patel. In addition, the limitations of single-slice technology will make such scanners unsuitable for other markets such as cardiology and preventive screening, Patel said.
