Hong Kong Baptist Hospital has produced a registered, combined CT-PET oncological image in under 20 minutes, according to Siemens Medical Solutions, which sells the Biograph hybrid CT-PET LSO scanner used to create the image.
The Biograph LSO imager utilizes lutetium oxyorthosilicate (LSO) as the PET scintillator. The use of LSO rather than bismuth germanate (BGO) confers high-speed properties, according to the Iselin, NJ-based vendor.
