Philips to offer 64-channel CT for Brilliance

Philips Medical Systems will be unveiling a 64-channel upgrade package for users of its Brilliance 40-channel CT scanners at the Journées Françaises de Radiologie (JFR) congress next week in Paris.

The upgrade provides thin-slice acquisition capabilities to the full 40-mm width of the Brilliance CT detector, accomplished by increasing the number of simultaneously acquired data acquisition channels to 64, according to the Andover, MA-based vendor. Philips also announced that it would begin commercial shipments of Brilliance 40-channel systems in October.

In other product developments, Philips said it has commenced commercial shipments of its Gemini PET/CT scanner with Brilliance 16 Power CT technology. The first clinical test sites were completed in June 2004.
