Hitachi Medical Systems America

Hitachi is planning to use this year's RSNA meeting as a springboard for its entry into the U.S. CT market.

The company has a 30-year history as a CT manufacturer, and for a number of years supplied CT scanners to Philips on an OEM basis until that company bought the CT assets of Marconi Medical Systems (formerly Picker International). Hitachi also has sold CT systems in its native Japan, but had held off entering the U.S. market.

That's due to change, and at this year's show Hitachi will show a 16-slice CT scanner as a work-in-progress. Food and Drug Administration clearance on the system is pending, and Hitachi will provide more details on the system in its RSNA booth.
