Contrast and virtual colonoscopy accessory developer E-Z-EM announced that it has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its EmpowerSync injector sychronization system.
The device is based on the controller area network-CAN in automation (CAN-CiA) DSP 425 protocol that allows synchronized use of EmpowerCT and EmpowerCTA injector systems and CT scanners from all vendors that use the DSP 425 standard, according to Lake Success, NY-based company.
The CAN-CiA protocol is recognized worldwide as a standard for data transmission between scanners and contrast injector systems, according to E-Z-EM. The protocol allows automated and coordinated operation of the scanner and the injector system from the scanner's control system. The FDA clearance of EmpowerSync brings EmpowerCT and EmpowerCTA up to this global standard, and will make the CT scanning process easier, the company said.
