The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) is joining forces with the American College of Radiology (ACR) and the Washington, DC-based Coalition for Imaging and Bioengineering Research to hold a summit on CT dose management on February 24 and 25.
The event will be held in Bethesda, MD, and is titled "NIH Summit to Focus on Management of Radiation Dose in Computerized Tomography -- Emphasis Toward the Sub-mSv CT Exam." It is closed to further registration, but the summit will be videocast live, organizers said in a statement.
The speaker roster boasts several radiology luminaries, including the following:
- James Brink, MD, chair of the ACR Body Imaging Commission, will discuss the ACR's medical imaging accreditation programs.
- Donald Frush, MD, chair of the ACR Pediatric Imaging Commission, will highlight the Image Gently initiative to raise awareness of opportunities to lower the radiation dose used in the imaging of children.
- Richard Morin, PhD, chair of the ACR Safety Committee, will participate in a primary panel discussion on the risks and benefits of CT use.
- James Thrall, MD, former ACR Board Chair and chair of radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, will talk about his institution's efforts to lower CT dose in many exams to less than 1 mSv.
