Encouraged by the response to its November 1 release of the RadLex Playbook, the RSNA is pumping up more interest in the playbook with image sharing demonstrations at the RSNA 2011 meeting in Chicago.
The playbook features a standard, uniformly structured set of names for radiological procedures. The initial release covers more than 350 common CT procedures.
The lexicon was developed by extracting names from lists of orderable procedures from several large imaging sites and adapting them to a standardized structure defined for the playbook, according to the organization.
The list is designed to address the current babble of terms used interchangeably to refer to common procedures. It enables more accurate ordering and scheduling, standardized image acquisition protocols, automated selection of reporting templates and more efficient and accurate coding and billing.
The RSNA plans to expand the playbook in 2012 with standardized terms for MRI and x-ray procedures.
