New ECRI paper surveys CT scanners

Nonprofit technology research firm ECRI Institute has released a new white paper designed to give hospital leaders an overview of the most popular CT scanners on the market, as well as information about features, average pricing, and dose safety.

Aiming to guide decision-makers in the purchase of expensive capital medical equipment, the document provides the following information:

  • CT scanner performance from 16-detector-row to premium models
  • Top four manufacturers
  • Top 10 models and average costs
  • New dose-reduction technologies and dose-safety guidance

Among the issues discussed in the report are manufacturers' steps to reduce radiation exposure by 20% to 80% using state-of-the-art technologies such as iterative reconstruction, noise-reduction techniques, and advanced image processing, ECRI said.

A feature of ECRI's Select Plus service used by hospitals and healthcare providers, the white paper can be downloaded at no cost after registration by clicking here.
