Calif. governor signs radiation reporting fix-up bill

A bill amending the California Radiation Protection Act was signed into law without comment on July 13, Gov. Jerry Brown's office reported on its website Tuesday.

AB 510, sponsored by Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) modifies several elements of the original law (SB 1237) that radiology proponents considered impractical or poorly written.

The original legislation, undertaken in the wake of several high-profile cases of radiation overdoses in the state in 2009, was signed into law in 2010 and became effective July 1 of this year. Because the amendment was granted urgency status by the Legislature, AB 510 became effectively immediately upon its signing.
